Tender Leaf Wooden Hippopotamus Animal

The hippo is kept low and wide, with a heavy head, a broad muzzle and short legs set close together. The mouth stays closed and the eyes are painted high on the head. In play it usually stays in the water: a blue cloth or a shallow tray on the table, and the hippo settles into it.

Tender Leaf works with reclaimed rubberwood: hevea trees that stop yielding latex after around 25 years and used to be burned. For every tree it uses, the brand says it plants a new one. The colours come from non-toxic, water-based paint and stain.
