Bought for my daughter who is almost turning 1 and straight away bought a set to give as a present too. It's already being played with nicely, by her big brother as well!

Grapat makes wooden toys that children give their own meaning. A figure may be a resident today and a traveller tomorrow. Bowls, rings and small shapes can be sorted, filled or added to a landscape. There is no final model that must be copied exactly.
Open-ended toys have no fixed final result. They invite play without requiring a construction or story to match an example exactly. Grapat keeps its shapes simple so that one piece can take several roles. A wooden disc might be shop money in one game and a plate on a table in the next. A Nin can be a traveller, parent or resident.
This openness still offers plenty to explore. A child tries which shapes fit in a bowl, how many rings surround a figure and what happens when a stack grows taller. Sorting, comparing and balance become part of that experimentation. The toy does not prescribe which action should be the goal.
Set out a few Nins, bowls and rings, for example. A child might match colours, hide figures under a bowl or give each character a home. Adding mandala pieces might create a flower garden or supplies for a shop. Later, the same pieces can be rearranged without needing a whole new set.
An adult can join in by following the story or asking what the child is making. Constantly demonstrating the correct way is unnecessary. A limited selection leaves room to explore the pieces; more material can be added when the game calls for it.
The wooden pieces have simple shapes with coloured or natural finishes. Grain and slight differences in shade may remain visible. Shape and size affect their role: a ring surrounds, a bowl collects and a figure can become a character.
A small selection on a tray makes differences in shape and colour clear. Pieces from several sets can later be combined. Check the age guidance, particularly for small parts. Wipe wooden shapes gently and avoid prolonged contact with water.
They are simply shaped wooden figures for play with an invented story.
No. They can also represent trees, food or other elements in play.
No. Contents, sizes and quantities vary by set.
No. Age suitability and small parts vary by product.
The pieces have no fixed role or final solution. The child decides what they represent and how play develops.
Set out a small selection. Sorting, filling, hiding or inventing a story can all be starting points.
