Description

This book is a must-have for our collection. It's inspired by Emmi Pikler 's vision, and it's the vision we apply in our daycare centers. So, this is a great book if you'd like to learn more about Emmi Pikler's vision.

Through Hannah's eyes and ears, the reader watches and listens as she spends a day in the baby group at a daycare center inspired by the work of Hungarian pediatrician and educator Emmi Pikler. Intern Hannah, a character created by the author, observes the group throughout the day and records what she sees and hears.
Through a detailed and vivid description of care and play sessions, you'll meet eight children aged 5 to 23 months. You'll follow their motor, cognitive, and social development. Throughout the day, you'll get to know the children better and empathize with their discoveries, experiences, and emotions. Hannah's story also describes the personal way the childcare workers interact with the children and their parents. Concepts like autonomy, interaction, attachment, self-regulation, socialization, self-esteem, and self-confidence are thus creatively and practically applied.
The story is interspersed with short informative texts on a wide variety of topics and surprising assignments that the reader can start working on right away.
The second part of "A Day in the Baby Group" is more theoretical. In this section, themes such as settling in, the progression of independent play and movement development, and cooperation during caregiving are described in detail and illustrated with engaging illustrations.
With this original (study) book, Hedie Meyling hopes to inspire everyone involved in the development of young children, from policy makers to parents, to treat children and themselves with respect.
