Hegen Manual Breast Pump

The Hegen SoftSqround™ Manual Breast Pump is a manual breast pump for mothers who want to pump calmly and at their own pace. You decide the rhythm and the suction yourself, so every pumping session matches what feels good for you. It's lightweight, compact and quiet, which makes it easy to use at home, at night or on the go. You pump straight into the Hegen storage container supplied, so you don't have to pour anything over.

The breast shields are made of soft silicone that clings to the skin. That creates a better vacuum, which makes milk removal more efficient and often gives a higher yield as well, without becoming uncomfortable. The shield tunnel is gentle on the nipple and prevents unnecessary pressure or friction while you pump.

The recognisable sqround™ shape also helps you find a comfortable position, whatever your breast size.

Especially in the first weeks after the birth, when your body is recovering and your milk supply is building up, a manual pump is a welcome support. It's suitable for stimulating or regulating your milk supply, in case of oversupply, and for expressing now and then so that your partner can give a bottle.

If you're going to pump full time or return to work, an electric pump is a better choice.

Click the manual pump onto the Hegen storage container. Press the handle down calmly until you feel suction and then let it return to its resting position. You determine the suction and the vacuum entirely with the speed and the force of your movements, and you can operate it with one hand.

Replace the soft parts regularly; how often depends on how often you pump. Valve flaps, diaphragms and other flexible parts can stretch over time, which affects the suction.

A well-fitting breast shield is important for comfortable pumping and a good milk yield. First measure the diameter of your nipple, not the areola, and add 4 mm to that, because your nipple swells slightly while you pump. The result tells you which size suits you:

• Nipple size 15 to 17 mm: breast shield 19 mm
• Nipple size 18 to 20 mm: breast shield 22 mm (this size is supplied as standard)
• Nipple size 21 to 23 mm: breast shield 25 mm
• Nipple size 24 to 26 mm: breast shield 28 mm
• Nipple size 27 to 29 mm: breast shield 31 mm

If your nipple size is smaller than 15 mm, you can reduce the Hegen breast shields with breast shield inserts, such as those from MayMom (size 17 mm), which are suitable for use in the Hegen pump base.
